Concept: Having to build off of the previous year’s TVC, we wanted to combine a brutalist futuristic sci-fi world (a key component of Oakley’s brand identity), Oakley’s legacy of 50 years in motorsports, and visuals and camera moves that capture the flow state of Motorcross in a high octane TVC.
Challenge: Do all of this with 1 shoot day.
Solution: The most expensive part of film production is not knowing. Using Ai, we were able to have a 3d version of our virtual and real life sets which we used to create an Animatic/Previz of the spot. Essentially we were able to have a rough cut of the film before we stepped foot on set.
Not only did this guide our shot list and schedule on the day, but it also solved post-production problems in pre-production as we were able to plan how our actor would interact with the virtual world and how we would translate from VFX to live action.
